Vastu Compliance

Vastu Compliance in architectural design is important for a variety of reasons, especially in cultures where Vastu Shastra is a prominent aspect of building and spatial planning. Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science of architecture and design, which emphasises creating harmonious living spaces by balancing the five elements of nature (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space).

Advantages:

  • It enhances the positive energy flow in a building. Proper alignment and spatial arrangements can improve mental peace, reduce stress, and create a feeling of balance and calm.

  • Its principles are based on the idea that the orientation and placement of rooms, furniture, and entrances can either invite or block positive energy (prana) or negative energy (dosha).

  • It can improve the health of the occupants by ensuring that the environment is conducive to physical and mental well-being. This involves the correct placement of water sources, the direction of sunlight, and ventilation etc.

  • It encourages wealth and prosperity. For instance, placing the kitchen, study area, or business spaces in designated areas can help individuals or businesses prosper.

  • It focuses on relationships among people living in a space. Properly designed spaces are thought to improve the relationship dynamics between family members, colleagues, and friends etc.

Key Aspects:

  • Orientation and Direction- Vastu Shastra assigns specific qualities to each direction, e.g. North Side for Wealth, South Side for Stability, East Side for Knowledge, and West Side for Prosperity).

  • Elemental Balance- Vastu Shastra is based on the five elements of nature- Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space that ensures a balanced integration of these elements within the building.

  • Room Layout- The placement of different rooms in a building follows certain principles for optimal energy flow, such as Living Room (should be in the North or East), Master Bedroom (should be in the Southwest), Children’s Bedroom (should be in the West or North), Study Room (should be in the Northeast or East), Kitchen (should be in the Southeast), Bathrooms (should be in the West or Northwest).

  • Ventilation & Lighting- Good Ventilation and Natural Lighting are critical in Vastu Compliance. Proper placement of windows & doors ensures that sunlight and fresh air circulate throughout the building, contributing to a positive and healthy environment.

  • Furniture Arrangement- The arrangement of Furniture & Decor should allow for smooth energy flow and avoid clutter. Furniture should be placed in such a way that it does not block entrances, pathways, or windows, allowing energy to flow freely through the space.
